Code of Ethics for Cyberjournalists
1. Accuracy must not be compromised for speed. Double check facts or quotes from sources. The article should be edited thoroughly to ensure both accuracy and good content.
2. Do not plagiarize.
3. Be fair. Always get the other side. Interview as many sources as possible.
4. Attribute properly. Don’t forget to credit other reporters/photographers/sources who have contributed to the article/web page.
5. Be honest and transparent. Let readers know what influenced the way the story was written.
6. Acknowledge and correct errors.
7. Online reporters should identify themselves during interviews and in every article they write. Be accountable for the story. Disclose, disclose, disclose. Never be anonymous especially when posting a comment.
8. Never accept bribes to avoid compromising credibility.
9. Do not sensationalize. Do not use vulgar words. Be sensitive. As much as possible, avoid hurtful words.
10. Online reporters must avoid injections of personal angst, emotions, and opinions. Online reporters should detach themselves from the story.
